Following the recent reorganization of the North Philippine Union Conference into two Union Missions – Northern Luzon Philippine Union Mission (NLPUM) and Southern Luzon Philippine Union Mission (SLPUM) as approved by the General Conference during its Annual Council on October 16, 2024, the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) Executive Committee convened Monday afternoon, November 11, 2024, to appoint the pioneering officers for the two union missions. The appointed officers will serve throughout 2025, until the next regular session scheduled at the year’s end.

For NLPUM, Pastor Daniel Malabad, currently serving his third term as President of Palawan Mission, was appointed President. Pastor Jose Zabat Jr., the outgoing Executive Secretary of NPUC, will join him as the Executive Secretary of NLPUM. Germilyn Rabang, currently Treasurer of the Northern Luzon Mission, will continue her service as Treasurer of the NLPUM. Temporarily based in Pasay, Manila, NLPUM will relocate to a permanent location in Tarlac and will oversee the gospel work in the territories of Central Luzon Conference, Central Luzon Provinces Mission, Mountain Provinces Mission, Northeast Luzon Mission, and Northern Luzon Mission.

Meanwhile, in SLPUM, headquartered in Lipa City, Batangas, Pastor Gerardo Cajobe, the current President of NPUC has been appointed President. Pastor Danilo Fiecas who presently leads the Mindoro Island Mission (MIM), will serve as the Executive Secretary while Mr. Joey Fofue, recently appointed Treasurer of the Central Luzon Conference following its reorganization, will take on the role of Treasurer for SLPUM. SLPUM will cover Cavite Mission, Mindoro Island Mission, Palawan Mission, South-Central Luzon Conference, and Southern Luzon Mission.

When asked about his thoughts on being chosen as NLPUM’s first president, Pastor Malabad shared that the election came unexpectedly, and the reality of this new role is still settling in. However, as God leads, he and his wife are ready to go. Speaking about his vision for NLPUM, he emphasized his commitment to the church’s mission – “to make disciples of Jesus Christ and proclaim the gospel message to prepare people for Christ’s soon return.” Malabad acknowledged that as pioneering officers in a newly established union mission, they expect to face challenges. Nonetheless, he affirmed that these will not deter them. Instead, he is determined to inspire church members to live out the mission. It is this commitment to the church’s mission that will drive him forward.

In light of the recent reorganizations, NPUC is set to hold its Constituency Meeting on November 19, 2024 primarily to approve its dissolution.
